An air scrubber is a portable filtration system that removes particles, gases, and chemicals from the air. Air scrubbers draw in impurities from the surrounding air and pass them through a series of filters to remove the contaminants. Air scrubber installation is necessary on restoration jobs where airborne pollutants like chemical fumes, mold, and dust are present during the process.

Homeowners often confuse negative air machines with an air scrubber because the two are quite similar. Negative air machines also remove potentially harmful particles from the air through filters, but unlike air scrubbers, these machines use ducting to remove the tainted air from a closed area. This creates a vacuum–like effect of negative air pressure inside a controlled area which restricts the spread of pollutants. These machines are best suited for highly toxic situations like asbestos removal.

An air purifier is an umbrella term that covers a wide range of systems. At Western Heating & Cooling, we focus on electronic air purifiers because they’re one of the best methods of removing germs and bacteria from the home. Electronic air purifiers pass your home’s air through an ionization chamber while your HVAC system is running as opposed to passing your air through a filter like an air scrubber or a negative air machine. Once the system ionizes the air, particles of dirt and bacteria stick to the walls of the chamber leaving your breathing air clean.

At Western Heating & Cooling, we can help you choose and install the right purification system. It can be confusing selecting a system suited to your circumstances. But whether you’re battling against pet dander, seasonal allergies, or cigarette smoke, we have the right tools to boost your indoor air quality. We specialize in air scrubber installation, repair, and maintenance. Our team deals with indoor air quality issues across Portland, OR, and we have the experience to fit your home with the system.
